You found my least favorite kind of arachnid, a tick. They are in class Arachnida, from there the taxonomy diverges into a different lineage than the evolution of spiders. Yes, they are quite hard to kill, I’ve crushed one and rinsed it down a sink drain, just to find it crawling out the next morning. If you live in a place with tick-borne diseases (I’m pretty sure you do) you should keep a jar of rubbing alcohol and toss them into it.
