Hi Wendave70!
Wow! That spi pot is a great tool! Fantastic shots! I’m going to guess Verrucosa arenata, the Arrowhead Orb-weaver. What a beautiful specimen!
It is indeed the most awesome thing ever! I now have four of these guys who are all very yellow to be sure in the bushes in the front of my house. I visit every evening just as they are finishing up their webs and each morning after they have taken them down. I now know where each of their hidey holes (nestled in under the leaf of a nearby tree or bush) are for day time resting and I peek in to tell them to have a good day!
Oh, that’s wonderful! Will you be posting the yellow ones? I have missed you. I’m so glad to be back and talking spiders with my buddies. I was visited by a lovely Araneus gemmoides or Araneus gemma last month. She had her web in some box hedges, and I found her daytime retreat, but after I disturbed her with a beam of light for some late-night pictures, she packed up and left. I’m so excited! I have a mudroom spider now. She’s a stripey Agelenidae of some type, and I’ve named her Clarice. I’m really glad she’s here. I’m stuck… Read more »
First I have missed you too! And I have not been as spider active as I would like to be since I recently took on a new position at work and it consumes much more ofy time than I would like. Second, I just love that you named your spider Clarice! What a great name. What a nice addition to the house. I am so sad every time I see reports about the fires and the smoke. It is just so tragic. It has been quite chilly here andany of my spidera that live around the outside of.the house have… Read more »
We got rain! The air has been clear since the 19th, which has been wonderful. Fresh air and water drops on flowers make me feel as if I owned the world. Fire season (the Idaho season between summer and fall) may well be over. I certainly hope so. It started abruptly for us this August with a wheat fire less than a mile away, but since then the smoke has mostly been blowing in from out of state. Now fall is here, and as the leaves crunch underfoot, I gaze into the deep blue sky with an acute sense of… Read more »
I cannot stop laughing at your cartoon! It is so amazingly accurate which makes it that much funnier! And the comparison to a more.stre line minded arachnid reallakes the point!
The rest of your post was beautiful my friend. I was taken away to the point that I thought I was reading am excerpt from a book that I wanted to keep reading. What a wonderful description of nature as you are experiencing it …..thank you for sharing in it such a great way.
Clarice has moved out. I’ve posted the update to the page with the drawing so everyone who’s following Clarice’s story can find it. I’m so glad you enjoyed the comic! I had fun making it. I’m currently working on another series of drawings I’m calling “Spider Approaches to House Cleaning.” It features spiders with interesting and entertaining housekeeping habits, including the Trashline Orb-weaver and, since I saw your post here, the Arrowhead Orb-weaver. I’m a bit stumped on which spider I should feature next. I have six more squares to fill before I post the complete series. Let me know… Read more »
