I have no idea what this impressive spider is but would love to know. I noticed it on the wall outside of my front door this afternoon.

Your impressive spider has an impressive name, Giant Lichen Spider. The Latin name is Araneus bicentenarius. She’s an Orbweaver and isn’t using her camouflage coloring very well. She probably builds her evening web very close to where she is resting. The easiest way to find a web, that I know of, is to walk face first into it. A better way is to move a flashlight around and look for the reflection on the web.
