Steatoda triangulosa (Triangulate Cobweb Spider).
Photographed on a wall near a light where moths and other insects congregate. The area is outdoors, but slightly enclosed with a stairway leading to apartments. This particular specimen was very docile.

Based on research on this site, my first guess on identification is Steatoda triangulosa (Triangulate Cobweb Spider). I’m new to identifying spider species, so help would most definitely be appreciated! Thanks!
Hi, you did well. This could be Steatoda triangulosa with narrow triangles (markings vary by individual) or Steatoda borealis. It’s easier if you’ve seen both in person. S. borealis has a “T” mark on the abdomen with the top of the T closer to the head. There are also linear bands running down the sides. The bands refract light in a cool glowing metallic- looking way. I hope you continue to be interested in spiders. It makes for interesting dinner conversation.
