Hi, It’s my educated guess that your educated guess is right. Black and Yellow banded garden spider. Argiope aurantia. It is an orbweaver type of spider found across USA and in other countries too. It has a little venom for killing prey and for defending herself. If you don’t squeeze bare skin against her ( is that something you even want to do?!) there will be no biting.
