Comments & ID Thoughts
I photographed this spider in 2006 and I have the picture hanging in my office. I have done my own research around the web (ha, spider pun) but have never been able to figure out what it is.

Hi, welcome to SpiderID. 🙂 What you have isn’t a spider, but a Wheel Bug ( (Arilus cristatus) nymph.

I can see how the position of what may actually be spider’s silk in the background could easily mislead you!
I guess it never occurred to me that what looks like the front legs could be antennae instead. Thanks for the help. Now I have an answer to the people that visit my office and say “what kind of spider is that?”
You’re welcome!
Note to admin.: This is one to file separately with other non-arachnid arthropods that might be mistaken for spiders.
Done.
