Hi. Your spider is a black and yellow garden spider, They are not dangerous at all.
Yea, if you ouch them, they often run to the side of their web, their eyesight is not ver good, but a bug getting in the web, they can tell right where it is with their keen sense of feel.
Overwhelmed, they usually drop to the ground and run for cover.
A her BTW, males are much smaller.

Yea, that should attract flying insects to her web, I even feed them from time to time.
Sad part, these don’t live long after making an egg sac and rarely survive first frost of winter.
Good side is her eggs will hatch next spring when the weather warms, so if lucky, you will have another around next season.
