Hi, this is a False Widow in genus Steatoda. I don’t know which species. She isn’t dangerous to people or pets. They are quite effective at killing insects and other spiders.

LilDame

Steatoda Gross, or Steatoda Noblis?

TangledWeb

What’s worse? Your Steatoda Gross or your Crap Spider? I know it’s a typo 🙂 and it amuses me. I don’t know which it is. There are about 118 Steatoda species in the World. Many of them are in multiple parts of the world, which makes it a bit difficult to go by location for some of them.

LilDame

Lol whats wrong with my crab spider 🙂

LilDame

Did you know that the rabbit hutch spider and the cupboard spider are also false widows.

TangledWeb

They go by many names.. we recently got a sighting of a Rabbit Hutch Spider from someone who had a rabbit hutch. That’s a specific species in Steatoda. They are also all called Tangleweb Spiders. I didn’t even know that when I chose my username.

LilDame

Lol cool right.

I had my fist encounter with a banded garden spider today, it was really thrilling.

TangledWeb

Why don’t you post pics? We all like showing off our spider buddies!

LilDame
