Comments & ID Thoughts
This is not my photo, but I am curious know what sort of spider this is. I live in Greenwood/Midland, Texas — a dusty area with lots of new homes surrounded by oilfield work sites. Someone nearby supposedly found this on their kid's neck. That's all that I know; the photo was posted on Facebook. I have a National Audubon Society Field Guide that I have relied on for years, but none of the spiders listed seem to very similar to this one. The abdomen is extremely light-colored, strikingly so, but the rest of the body is much darker. The abdomen itself seems large. The legs are squished but appear to be fairly short in length, and both legs and body appear smooth, not hairy, so I don't think it's a wolf spider (which was my first thought when I saw the photo).
