Comments & ID Thoughts

This spider dropped from a live oak tree, and spun the web between two White Oak trees and an azalea bush. The entire web was spun in approximately 15 minutes and was videotaped. After stopping the video a bumblebee hit the web, and the capture of the Bee was also videotaped. The web is 2 feet in diameter, and the attaching legs from the oak trees are between six and 10 feet in length. The bottom of the web is anchored at two points in an azalea bush that is approximately 9 feet tall.

She’s beautiful! I’m glad you had the opportunity to see her at work. She’s a Tropical Orbweaver, Eriophora ravilla. Her pink fuzzy legs are fantastic and adorable too! The bee didn’t think so. It comes out even. Some species of wasps hunt and kill spiders like her.
