Comments & ID Thoughts

Found inside a bunch of bananas from ALDI in Christchurch, Dorset. They have been in the fridge for almost a week and inside plastic wrapping since i bought them, and yesterday i took them to Sussex and opened them for the first time. I really would like to know ASAP whether this spider is foreign or dangerous as I don’t like keeping it captive as it’s cruel but I cannot risk letting it escape until I know it’s safe to do so.

Hi, and welcome to the site. Your spider is one of the ground spiders, Gnaphosidae family which you do have locally. They are not dangerous but a bite may sting a bit for the venom.
Banana shipments rarely come packaged, this would be a local sort to your produce supplier that packages these.(perhaps your store.)
