Comments & ID Thoughts
I've searched a bit and didn't find any name, only photos of similar spiders but with no specification whatsoever. I found this one in my University in Brasília, Brazil. There are hundreds of those and they are huge, really huge. Wanted to know so I could raise awareness to the right solution to this problem.

Hi, and welcome to he site. Your spider is a gold silk orb weaver in the Araneidae family, Nephila genus, Nephila clavipes species. These large but docile spiders will pose no risk to you, but they can bite if mishandled and venomous. Toxicology shows they are a bit stronger than other orb weavers,so I might imagine a bite would sting a bit and may cause some swelling. I have handled a good number of them and never bitten, Pretty spiders, one of only two my mother could even tolerate.(arachnophobia) In the states, we sometimes call these banana spiders. https://bugguide.net/node/view/544288 https://bugguide.net/node/view/2023/bgpage… Read more »
