Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

We found this beauty on a trail in the Pinebrook area of Park City. About 2” across. We encouraged her to get off the trail and she was quite sluggish until I lightly tapped her back legs. She reared back and became very defensively aggressive, much like wolf spiders I’ve encountered. I’m curious what she is; I’ve never encountered one like this.

There’s a few trap-door spiders around Utah but because of the dark triangular spot on its abdomen I’m confident it is a member of the Aliatypus genus. Possibly https://spiderid.com/spider/antrodiaetidae/aliatypus/janus/
