Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

I believe this is a Daring Jumping Spider, otherwise known as the Bold Jumping Spider or White Spotted Jumping Spider. Phidippus audax.

I sighted this 1/2 inch black beauty around 3pm in a grassy backyard, climbing on the leg of a plastic chair. Once I relocated this spider to the grass, it seemed intrigued by my computer charging cord (I was working at home today) and tightrope walked a 10 foot stretch along said cord showing off its balancing talent and periodically looking up at me with its many eyes!

This spider bears several white spots (a smiley face!) on the top of its abdomen, a larger spot on its cephalothorax (head), and iridescent blue chelicerae (fangs).

It was a priviledge to photograph this playful creature!
