Sorry, we’re humans. iNaturalist uses computer vision for the initial ID, if that was what you were expecting. 🙂
Please forgive my haste and rudeness. I am very much appreciative that there are people here and it’s lovely that people know these things and are willing to share what they know. The photo I uploaded was not as good as what now appears in this post and i erroneously thought that AI had taken over upgrades the photo and was ready to deliver an answer…for what it is worth….I am much happier with people though.

You’re welcome! I don’t find you to be rude, you’re not the first person to not expect us to be people. 🙂 I prefer the ID from a human too. I’ve tried hundreds of photos against Google Lens. Sometimes it picks up something I didn’t. It is much better at plants and insects than spiders. Some of the identifications it gives are hilarious to me. It grouped my photos into categories like, “jungle.” It insists my dog is a cat. It identified a flowering plant as, “poop on a stick.” How is that even an option?! I think my photos… Read more »
That’s a black and yellow orb weaver of the genus argiope. Hope that helps
Yes, Argiope aurantia. The species name is from the Latin word for gold, the element is Au in Chemistry.
Would you mind helping me identify a spider that I am not sure of? It’s the only photo on my profile so far- I think it’s a wolf spider, but I can’t be sure
