Spotted on a walk path in Central Oregon.
I’m guessing that it is weird to see this for the first time, I haven’t yet. This is a female Wolf Spider. I can’t see her markings to identify her more specifically because she’s covered in her kids. Female Wolf Spiders carry their egg sacs everywhere to guard them, then the hatchlings ride around on her until they are too old for that. In my childhood, it was the day when my Dad said, “No more of this, you’re going to break my back.”
Thanks, I have heard of Wolf Spiders, just can’t recall seeing a spider with such a large mound on them…. Cheers
