Comments & ID Thoughts
This is not my picture! I just wanted to discuss with you guys something very weird! I found this spider smashed on the road, I think a car must have run it over. When I went home and searched for it I found out it is called ladybird spider and is an endangered species, that lives mostly in the UK and central Europe. It said that in the UK they keep a thousand of them in a protected area cause there are only a few of them. I live in the Greece near the city so how did this spider get here and since it is so rare and an endangered species do you think I should call an expert an entomologist or something to come take a look at the area?

If anyone ever reads this post, I just wanted to say that it’s not as endangered as it seems (at least in Greece) as I did more research, there are videos and pictures of it all over Greece in islands such as Crete and Samothraki and in the mainland Thessaloniki, Athens etc. I guess it just immigrated here and it spread but maybe they don’t know it yet? I’m happy there are many of them 🙂
I have also seen a lot of pictures of these guys in Greece. It could also be tied to region, as you think, or the actual species. Eresus kovaris does have a few sub-species I believe so that could be it as well.
Eresus sandaliatus
