Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

We know it is a juvenile female widow but we are trying to figure out exactly which type. We live in PA but she was found in our bag of grapes. No clue where the grapes came from as they were in a plain bag because the grocery store pulled the order for us. Since I think not all black widows are in our area of PA I don't just want to let her go without knowing her exact type.

Seems like a northern black widow.
here’s a link: https://spiderid.com/spider/theridiidae/latrodectus/variolus/

This is a Southern Black Widow (Latrodectus mactans). One way to distinguish them is with the number of bands on the side of their abdomens. Variolus has 4 while mactans has 3 like this picture. https://bugguide.net/node/view/178345

Good to know

I believe you are right the it is a Latrodectus Mactan, but I thik this is a pic of a male specimen.

I believe that is a male L. Mactan
