Comments & ID Thoughts
I found this spider by accident in a small phone box on the side of the house. It looked to be around 2 inches across, but that might've been my over active imagination.

Hi, welcome to Spider ID. 🙂 This is a Hacklemesh Weaver (Amaurobiidae), tentatively Callobius severus – there are other possible species in the genus in CA I’m not familiar with, this looks like C. severus though.

Thanks sooo much! It’s nice to be able to put a name to it. My mom and I are afraid of spiders, but I’m curious enough to want to id them too.
