Comments & ID Thoughts

I believe this is some variant of a black widow Found under deck board when repairing deck. Looks to be with its egg pod. Killed after photographed.

Definitely a Black Widow. Maybe Northern Black Widow?
This is why you should always wear gloves if you’re handling piles of wood or reaching into dark crevices. It isn’t really necessary to kill widow spiders; once you know where they live just don’t go putting your bare hands in that spot. They only bite if pressed against the skin, and most bites on humans are dry (containing no venom). Only adult females produce enough venom to endanger a human, and adult females never leave their webs unless forcibly moved.

That should be our website slogan, “..just don’t go putting your bare hands in that spot.”
