Hi, I'm new to this website but would love to know what kind of spider this is. He is an annual guest on my deck in the summer. He weaves a web on various furniture and I just move it when I have to and then his web pops up somewhere else. If I had to guess he is a some kind of Orchard spider. He seems harmless but if he bites I would love to know. I am sharing my space with him at the moment.

You are correct in identifying this spider as Leucauge venusta, the Orchard Orb-weaver. All orb-weavers are benign, being capable of biting but reluctant, and possessing weak (to us) venom that may cause irritation and discomfort but no damage. That’s an excellent porch friend to protect you from the mosquitoes! I love its luminous markings.
