Comments & ID Thoughts

Hi all! I found this little guy on the backdoor handle. I'm not a fan of spiders, but I'm also not a fan of killing harmless ones. I had a mini heart attack before I was able to snap these pics. I wanted to set him free out back but I want to km now what I'm dealing with so I m now how far away to.take him.lol.
I am in NC and the apartment I rent from cut grass right outside my door yesterday. I usually see a few wolf spiders and such after they cut but this one is new. I'm guessing that's what got him stirred up and sneaking inside. Can anyone tell me what this guy is?

Hey there, no worries. This looks like Steatoda grossa, the False Black Widow. Their bites can cause some systemic symptoms, similar to a Black Widow but significantly milder, but leave no permanent damage. I would put it somewhere it can be dry, like a rock pile or junk pile – perfect for tangle webs.
