I'd love to know what this spider is, and whether or not it is dangerous, since it has made a home in my tomato plant! It is large, about 2" long, and quite colorful!

I think I found it in a spider guide–a common, harmless garden spider!
Yes, this is Argiope aurantia, the Black and Yellow Garden Spider. It is harmless and indeed beneficial, since orb-weavers consume large numbers of flying insects including disease-carrying mosquitoes.
