His little back was dark green but you can't really tell in the picture. He had made one line of thread before I found him. He was just sitting on the bricks outside my house like this.

This might be an Araneus diadematus or some other orb weawer in the genus Araneus.
Correct on the orb-weaver part. This is Araneus bicentenarius, the Giant Lichen Orb-weaver. It’s the only orb-weaver with this shade of dark green in North America. I’d love to see one in person someday.
So would I, but I’d have to move to the States in order to familiarize myself with the local species ๐
