I think this beauty is Dolomedes sp, a fishing spider.
Yes, Dolomedes scriptus, I think. It has the “W” or “heart-shaped” markings consistent with that.
A very useful hint. I still find it difficult to tell a D. scriptus from a D.tenebrosus.
BugGuide.net (unfortunately not working at the moment, or I’d include the link) has on their Dolomedes page a listing of field marks to distinguish between species. I’ve found it to be very helpful.
