Nest built into screen on my porch. Diameter of nest about 1 inch, light tan in color. Spider about 1/2 inch long. Translucent legs, dark gray abdomen, translucent thorax. After observing for about 2 weeks, spider found dead on ledge below nest. No eggs hatched. ☹️

That’s thypical of many species: the female dies shortly after laying her eggs 🙁

I agree with you, this was a crab spider, most likely a member of the family Thomisidae. I’m not sure about the species; Misumena vatia is a possibility.
