Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

There are several of the specific spiders on my front porch. They build their webs in the corners formed by my porch roof and columns. The webs are triangular in overall shape. I don't know if they are active during the day or not but I've only really noticed them at night - nocturnally they are very active. I've never seen one before with such a bold white abdomen. These have a pattern on their backs as I hope you can see in the picture. I've done web searches and the closest looking spider I've found is the Arboreal Orb Weaver. But I haven't seen the tell tale orb in the center of these webs as of yet. Sometimes the webs are stringy at best and other times much more elaborate. And the pictures, while similar, still aren't the same. Hoping someone can positively identify this spider for me.

She should have the orb style out in the dark hours. In Autumn and cloudy days they might be out in daytime. When it is sunny she needs to rest, stay cool, and hide. Different types of orbweavers make different sleeping spots for themselves. She might just make a lttle silk cot in a furrow (that’s a guess from the common name), I haven’t seen one in-person… Read more »
