I saw one of these in the woods, in a huge web between antigonish and new glasgow! It had a hummingbird or cicada in its web & was so big it gave me the cold sweats. Your picture is the first I’ve seen that matches it
She’s a Giant Lichen Orbweaver. She big because she’s built to eat big insects. I wish you got a photo of one with prey. Sphinx moths also look like hummingbirds and cicadas, they’re really cool huge moths and this is a cool huge spider. Bigger spiders doesn’t equal more dangerous venom. The dangerous spiders (to humans) in US and Canada are small.
Thanks! I got a video on my phone of it hanging there with prey, it caught me off guard honestly and I wasnt brave enough to really get in there for a good shot. Now that I know what it is I’ll keep an eye out for another one. Definitely up there for me with fishing spiders for scary & unexpected finds haha
