Hi, she’s a Black and Yellow Garden Spider, Argiope aurantia. My hydrangeas are popular with pollinator insects, which is probably why they’re population with Orbweavers, like yours, who enjoy eating wasps and hornets.
Thank-you. I was intimidated! Now that I understand how useful she can be I’ll happily leave her alone. I assumed it was a she because of the size.
