Hi, I’m not sure which Araneus species this is. Here’s the data for Manitoba for the genus from BugGuide.net https://bugguide.net/adv_search/bgsearch.php?taxon=1977&month%5B%5D=9&location%5B%5D=ME She has the leg bands of A.trifolium, but has angulate projections like A. gemma, A.diadematus, A. gemmoides, Araneus trifolium, and a few others. Do you know what her prey is? We’re all volunteers. Unfortunately our Site Moderator is busy with other responsibilities full-time during the pandemic. She has the most experience of us all in doing identifications from photos. Anyone else have thoughts on the ID?
I agree with you on the genus. Of the species you have mentioned, I think that A. gemmoides is the closest match. I also think it is safe to rule out A. diadematus; the markings don’t seem to match and the angulate projections look too sharp to me.

I seem to recognize a ” fine white line crossed by two shallow white Vs on the front of the abdomen.”
