Not sure if this is a brown recluse, as it looks like it has a dull out line of a violin shape, but not sure if it has to be more pronounced then this one is. I can't tell if it has 6 eyes like a brown recluse or 8 like other spiders. It does have fine hairs on its legs. Hope someone can help me with this. Thanks!

Hi. Well, the eyes are wrong and patterns on the abdomen can rule out violin spider.
Brown recluse are not found in California, but 3 other species of Loxoceles are.
Can’t make out eyes well, but I won’t rule out a very young giant crab spider, Olios ?? Curicaberis ??
Okay, thank you for your response. But I wanted to add, that Brown recluse spiders are here, maybe not a lot, but they are here. I was bit by one, and all the horrible things that went with it (it was confirmed it was a brown recluse, and it was in a motorhome that I was cleaning that was in a field, in the city of San Diego. And then my son took a photo of one that was in a bathroom in the mountains here called Palomar Mountain. We knew it was a brown recluse, because I was bit… Read more »
Typically you would have needed to take detailed images of the genitalia to rule out other Recluse (Loxosceles) species.
Dan, I looked up the Olios spider and it looks a little like that, but there was another that really fit, and they might not be in this area either (I didn’t look at where they are known to be), but it looks almost exactly like a Golden Huntsman spider. Thanks again!
Hi. Best I can say for brown recluse in California is they are not established and very rarely a hitchhiker from recent travels to the midwest. Loxosceles rufescens has been spotted in San Diego county, and Loxoceles deserta is established in Imperial county. A trained arachnologist could tell them apart. The Olios giant crab spider has very dark face and mouth parts, 3 species of Curicaberis are nearly blond throughout. Others that might pass for giant crab spiders are Philodromedae, running crab spiders, or Selenopidae family, unofficially called flatties. These significantly smaller as adult. Profound here is I found most… Read more »
You are very knowledgeable with spiders, I hope if I have anymore “what kind of spider is this” you will answer and share your knowledge with me. Thanks!
Thanks. If I can’t, there are others here that likely can. Any questions,I will try to give accurate answers.
