Comments & ID Thoughts
Hi,
I took this picture at night on a wall and I've been trying to indentify the specie but could not find it. It is pretty small(around the size of a thumbnail).
Thank you !

Hi! This is Nuctenea sp., likely N. umbratica.
Thank you very much! I can see why I could not find it, other specimens seem to have a much bigger and rounder abdomen.
By the way I’m starting to take photographies of spiders but I’m kind of struggling to identify them, do you have any ideas on where I can search them(website) so that I don’t have to bother you every time if find one?
Bother?? By sharing your finds with us, you only make us happy 😀 .
Regarding the specimen that you have found, it’s precisely her flat addomen that make makes it easy to tell Nuctenea sp. from other orb weavers 🙂
Here is a good site dedicated to European spiders:
http://www.arachnophoto.com/en/
As an Italian, I can tell you that it covers nearly all the species that are common in my country. for the smaller abdomen.
It’s very user-friendly, I think you’ll like it 🙂
Cool ! I’ll post my pictures when I can’t manage to identify them then, I was kinda worried it was considered spam.
And thank you for the website I’ll use it to identify my futures encounters.
You’re welcome. Once you’re able to recongnise the most common families, I’m sure you’ll make the most of that site 🙂
