Anyone have any idea?
My best guess is some variety of trapdoor spider. Trapdoor spiders belong to a grouping of spiders known as Mygalomorphs, which also includes tarantulas. Mygalomorphs have thicker legs and stockier bodies than ‘normal’ spiders, and are typically burrowers. Males wander in search of females beginning in late summer.
