Rolled up in a ball when I put him in the glass. Just curious what it is. The real vivid colors of it really made me curious what it was, dangerous maybe? Looked very relaxed and stayed in the same place for hours. I’d said I’d leave him and let him make his own way out but didn’t move so I put him outside.
Vivid colors? It looks like a spider in genus Steatoda of family Theridiidae. Their markings are generally gold, white, or silver. They stop moving in bright lighting and start again in darkness. A common name for them is False Widows. Ignore any UK media that portray them as dangerous to people. They can’t see well and prefer darkness where they can use their sense of touch to hunt insects and other spiders. They do their best to avoid us. Thank you for being kind to it.
Hi. Thank you for the explanation. By vivid colors I mean it’s markings were very illuminating almost like a reflective greenish, and it had a very silky dark black body and legs. It’s very rare to see such Colors/markings like this on a spider in Ireland, they are more often than not grey/brown here. I usually don’t mind them in my house and let them get on with their business as they let me get on with mine, but this guy caught my eye so I had to put him outside. Always the right thing to do.
