Found this spider on my hanging basket. It was guarding a mass of new babies. It was quite large, almost as long as my finger. I have never seen one like this before. Any ideas??

My guess is Dolomedes triton.
That’s the closest I could find as well. It was by my koi ponds so I do think it is a fishing spider. It was jet black with white dots and stripes instead of brown or gray but that may be just a color variation??
