Comments & ID Thoughts
Found near a lake. In the mountains. Perched on a rag weed of some sort. With a web. What I found interesting was only 6 legs. Unless I'm missing something.

You are a good observer! Yes, this spider is looking a bit worse for wear. Losing legs is not uncommon, especially this late in the season when many spiders are coming to the ends of their lives anyway. Although I can’t see the markings well enough to be sure, the shape and habitat are consistent with Dolomedes tenebrosus, the Dark Fishing Spider. I speculate that this may be a female guarding her nursery web. Did you see any egg sacs or very tiny spiders in that web?
