I have no idea what spider this is, but I thought it was fascinating, and I want to find out! I found it while picking apples, around 6:30 pm.

This is an orb weaver, either Araneus diadematus or Neoscona sp.;more likely the former, I think. I totally agree with you, these spiders are fascinating, sometimes it looks like they’re swimming in the sky.

Did we? My guess is based on the markings on the belly , which leave me in doubt, but you have actually seen the spider. So what’s your guess 😉 ? Anyway, we can’t be 100% sure until an expert files your spider 🙂
Looks like a barn spider.
