Comments & ID Thoughts

Our guess is Araneus diadematus (Cross Orbweaver) - it was well underground, perhaps 2”, exposed when we were digging carrots - is it possible the vibrant colour was from eating creatures that were feeding on the carrots?

Araneus marmoreus. They are always brightly colored, usually orange or yellow but always with black and white banded legs.
