Comments & ID Thoughts
Found outside crawling on our natural gas meter. There was a web (cob web like) nearby between house and aluminum fence, but it was maybe a foot away.
Temperature in the low 70's.
We've never seen a red spider like this before in our area.

My best guess is Araneus trifolium, a Shamrock Orbweaver. The species varies in color, markings, and fuzziness. This combination isn’t common, but it should be possible for one to be red and fuzzy with red/black/white markings. Her pedipalps are extended from her anterior in a way that isn’t typical in photos of females. I think she might be using them to smell the glove.
I was looking at other images on this site and was wondering if it could be a Neoscona Crucifera (Hentz Orb-weaver) ??
I saw some similar pictures but the black striping on the legs wasn’t so distinct on the other pictures.
Oddly, we came across another (but smaller) by our front door. Just strange that we have never seen these red spiders before and now 2 in one day/night.
