Likely a Hentz Orb Weaver.
Appreciate it! This is the first time seeing him/her….and we’ve lived her 20+ years! We also had a black and yellow garden weaver a few years ago. Felt badly about taking down part of the web to remove the hummingbird feeder, but a) knew it would be rebuilt, and b) didn’t want to risk any hummers getting caught.
You’re welcome! I wouldn’t feel bad about that, if I were you. Speaking about myself, I let my Cellar Spiders free to make their webs wherever they want, but not around my book shelves. That’s where I draw a line 😀 And when they do, I take down their webs without any guilty feelings.
I can’t say that I blame you there as I would absolutely have no qualms about taking down a web anywhere near my book shelves or film library. It really was a well-made web before I destroyed it and the new one’s a little rough around the edges and about 2″ shorter in width, but still good sized. Just glad it’s outside!
