Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

I've never seen this kind of spider here before. I first thought it might be a wolf spider, but the markings don't seem right. It looks like a male, judging by the large palps. Coloring is black and white. Striped legs. Kind of a devil face pattern on the abdomin, similar to some orb weavers I've seen. It's web looked small and "messy"/irregular. It was found above my bathroom window and sink.

You’re right, not a Wolf Spider and a male specimen. That much is certain. This must be an Orb Weaver, but I’m not sure about the genus. The white striped on the front of the abdomen and the “devilish face” make me think of Araneus saevus, but I’m considering Araneus Gemmoides as well. Thanx for your nice description, anyway.
