Hi, she’s a difficult one. My best guess is Araneus saevus. https://bugguide.net/node/view/682477 She has the big light-colored spot mark. She also has legs that are harrier than most Araneus diadematus and her leg band color pattern doesn’t quite match Araneus marmoreus. There are other Araneus species that are possible. She may alternatively be in genus Neoscona. The proper way to identify her, scientifically, would involve a microscope. So we can’t give you a definite answer, just our best guesses. She looks like what you would get if you mixed all the species in family Aranidae together into one spider. 😉
Thank you! I’ve never seen one like her in my 35 years living in Portland OR. So I was quite surprised. It’s body was very large at least the size of a pea. Width was well over a centimeter.
