hi, i have just joined this site to ask for identification. but first i checked some pictures and found yours 🙂 i think i have the same exemplar, a big female in my case. i tried to poke it with a straw and the stunning thing is, normally a spider would run away. but not this one. it showed very aggressive and territorial behavior. it did not back off a centimeter. instead it tried to attack and showed defensive behavior by standing on its back legs with front legs up in the air (as for example tarantulas do this) and… Read more »

Hi Rome-Legacy! Yours is an accurate description of the way this spider behaves when confronted by humans. However, no spider is aggressive to us. Being poked with a straw is perceived as a serious threat by any spider, and that makes sense. Imagine a giant poking at you with a big stick: you’d certainly feel threatened ;). thx for your response! Valuable information. Yeah, by aggressive i’ve meant it wasn’t running away, but you understood it 🙂
i was just so surprised to see a spider behaving like this right in front of my door. i don’t know why, but i was thinking that only bigger spiders and venomous spiders do that and others run away. Well, i don’t know why i was thinking it 😀 so thatswhy i was surprised.
