Looks like the Noble False Widow, Steatoda nobilis.
The pic looks like one, however in Googling the false widow, it says they are in UK. Can they really be in Northern CA?
False widows were introduced into North America a while back and now they are found all throughout the continent. Nobilis is only really found on the west coast of USA, mainly California.
