Comments & ID Thoughts
This is Scytodes thoracica, I confirmed my ID with BugGuide.net before posting it to double check myself. It was on the wall above the bathroom sink (best place to find them!) in the middle of the night (best time to find them). I think it ate all of my Steatoda spp. and Pholcus phalangiodes spiders in that room. Now it is gone and a Yellow Sac Spider, Cheiracanthum sp., spider is ruling the bathroom. The Cheiracanthum spp. spiders have been at the top of the cannibalism food chain of spiders in my house.

@ItsyBitsy May I have your blessing to attempt to contact Kyle to obtain Moderator functions? I know he has been absent, the worst he can do is ignore me. I would like to have the ability to file photos. It feels better to submitters to see their contributions added to the collective data and photo gallery. Adding identified spiders to Locations improves the usefulness of the location search function. If you would like for me to only have certain abilities because I’m still relatively new, I understand. I want to attempt to retain volunteers by keeping the site moving forward.… Read more »
I agree you should have some level of moderation ability. However, I don’t know that the site is properly set up for it. If you want to ask I wish you luck but I still recommend BugGuide or iNaturalist for that energy. <3
Thank you, I’ll give it a try. I’m already learning BugGuide and I volunteer for the genealogy preservation site BillionGraves.com and I promote local tourism, history, art, and nature on GoogleMaps by posting photos. I kill invasive plants locally and do volunteer work on public land. I salvage materials for environmental and socioeconomic benefit……and a bunch of other activistic, charity, and education stuff. I’m really not trying to acquire more functional control of this site for another thing to do. 🙂 I’m trying to get the site closer to where you had it when I started. I don’t have the… Read more »
For the most part concerning clutter and trying to file everything identifiable that’s probably not a good use of your time, although I get wanting to delete duplicates to help people you’re interacting with, spam, and other problematic posts when you come across them. The backlog is massive. I’d wait to see what sort of changes are ultimately made before investing a lot of time into anything.
Okay, I’ll focus on those things that are more directly impactful with my personal efforts. People understand that we’re volunteers, they don’t complain, like they used to. I’m photographing, GPS marking, and transcribing headstones into the Worldwide (Mormon) database trying to permanently record the art and info on them before they are lost to vandals and environmental conditions. It’s rewarding when I see a grave I recorded match up to someone in the world who was searching for the people buried there. Spiders LOVE the engravings on headstones as habitat!
