I think this is the type of spider that I found. I am in my mid forties, have never seen anything like this:

I was raking leaves glanced down and happened to notice it. I did not kill it, it was already dead (probably from the cold weather.)

That’s okay, we have a program glitch that causes multiples of photos anyhow. She’s Araneus marmoreus, a Marbled Orbweaver, as Spo0ders wrote. I’m Generation X too and I haven’t seen one in-person yet before also.
It looks similar to a marbled orb weaver here’s a picture I found on google (not mine)
Spo0ders- Yes, you got it and you did it well! The comparison photo you chose is perfect. It is helpful to post photos and links to back your identification opinion, just as you did.

Welcome to the site! It is entirely run by volunteers like yourself. Our Moderator can’t be with us during the pandemic due to her responsibilities.
