I think it’s Larinioides sclopetarius, a Bridge Orbweaver. I found one on a manmade waterway embankment, just like in your photo. This species tends to be found on man-made structures and close to water. The females build a web tent around their egg sac when the hatchlings are ready to emerge. I noticed that the hatchlings of the spider I was watching were washed to the bank of the brook or rocks below in a rainstorm.

You’re welcome. They don’t have dangerous venom to mammals and they aren’t aggressive. In my experience, Orbweavers mostly ignore people. I doubt that they can visually perceive us. Like the majority of spiders, they’ll reserve biting people for self-defense in situations where they have skin pressed against them that could crush them. Those situations are mostly when spiders climb into beds or clothes or people are handling them roughly or reaching into a dark place.
