Steatoda nobilis, a Noble False Widow. Despite many untrue stories about False Widows in UK media, they are not new nor dangerous to people. Their ranges are expanding or humans are expanding into their ranges. They eat insects and other spiders. They see very poorly and hunt in the dark using their sense of touch. We now have this species in the U.S. since it was accidentally introduced to California. Some False Widows kill Black Widows.
