Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

I got out of the shower and found hanging out in the bathroom beside the mop. The bathroom usually has the lights on and we're used to finding standard black house spiders but this guy gave me the booglies. I'm assuming it's a widow due to the markings. I couldn't get a good picture of the top side. It wasn't very big, the body was maybe 3mm-ish in diameter.

We have two small kids, less than 3yr old, so if it is a widow then I'd like to sort out calling in the pro's to make sure we don't have any more hanging out.

It's worth noting that this time of year our outdoor temps are around 15 deg. F to 35 deg F. We're roughly 60mi. south of the Canadian border.

Any help verifying the spider would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry about the late response. The abdomen is consistent with the False Widow (Steatoda) genus. These spiders are usually not considered to be dangerous to humans but can have a decent bite. They are no where near as dangerous as the Widow (Latrodectus) genus. As with any spider bite, as long as it is kept clean it should be fine.
