Yes, Latrodectus mactans, the Southern Black Widow, is the most like Black Widow species to be found in Louisiana. There are Brown Widows in the state also .https://bugguide.net/node/view/1999 They will only bite in self-defense to avoid being trapped or crushed. As long as skin isn’t pressed against them, they shouldn’t bite. Bites are actually very rare. There is an antivenom that can be administered if a bite does occur.
